Each spice sachet is handcrafted and contains the essential and typical gin spices such as Cinnamon, Juniper, Star Anise and cardamom. Hibiscus is also included to add a light pink blush in colour and a fresh note on the palate. The sachets offer a fun and attractive alternative for the discerning gin drinker and also make an ideal gift.
Add a silky sachet of selected spices to your favourite drink. Stir to enhance flavour from spice and colour from naturally dried hibiscus.
Background on Gin Spice
Our project has always been inspired by social awareness and upliftment but our commitment has been taken to another level. Supplied with complete individual kits, this project creates satellite production pods. Women from disadvantaged areas are up-skilled while also being mentored in an entrepreneurial approach to working. From the start they have been taught the principles of supply and demand, equipping them with knowledge and experience to become independent suppliers of our sachets. It allows them to work flexi-time, close to home, so avoiding the high cost of unreliable transport. This has been an exciting and mutually beneficial initiative with huge potential to be easily replicated.
Collaboration is a key. The Lwandle Spice Girls, our pilot project, has been accommodated in the Ikhaya After Care School, started by Emily Ndumiso in 2017. She herself, was given an opportunity to do both a Mentoring and Entrepreneurial Course by the Somerset West branch of Rotary International in 2017. Our Spice Girls are able to use the school space from early until the children arrive at 14h30. As our business grows, we will also be able to reinvest in the school which offers invaluable additional teaching to children after school.
